Fosse Arthour and Mortain

Arrival in the bay of Mont St Michel at your own expense.

Departure for a discovery of Fosse Arthour : it’s today a water gap, a narrow, 70-metre deep gorge, cut through a rocky ridge and littered with huge blocks that have collapsed from the sides.This area is renowned for several legends, the most famous one about King Arthur, who lived there for a while. This is a place of contrasts, you will hike from the cluse (geological fault) to the ridges, witness to many geological upheavals.

Free lunch

Continue to Mortain, looking for the gobelins (small legendary creatures). Nature with a sophro- reflexologist private guide walk   “Wellness and legends” on the Mortain Cascades footpath.

Then visit of the collegiate church of Mortain classified in 1905 as a historical monument. It shelters a treasure, unique in the world, the Chrismal, a Eucharistic receptacle for keeping the holy oil.

Day 2

Bay of Mont Saint-Michel

Breakfast at the accomodation.

Arrival in the bay of St Michel at your own expense.

Listed world heritage by Unesco for over 40 years, the Bay of Mont St Michel offers a specular scenery that varies according to the coefficients of the tides, the most impressive in Europe. You will discover the landscapes which have inspired many men of letters : V. Hugo, T. Gautier, G. Flaubert, G. de Maupassant…

Discovery of Mont St Michel, its narrow streets and its medieval village and its Abbey.

Day 3

Avranches

Breakfast at the accommodation.

Departure for Avranches. Named “city of manuscripts”, this city perched on a granite hill enjoys a privileged location overlooking the Mont and its Bay. It preserves treasures linked to history among which the Treasury of the St Gervais Basilica. Visit of the scriptorial (the only museum in France dedicated to the presentation of medieval manuscripts, a fabulous collection of 4000 manuscripts from the abbey of Mont Saint-Michel)

Lunch at the restaurant

From its botanic garden, enjoy a moment of peace and the panoramic view over Mont St Michel.  Then visit visit of St-Gervais Basilica, a charming church in the heart of Avranches, known for owning the skull of the bishop St-Aubert.

Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight in a castle in the bay of  Mont St Michel.

Day 4

Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel and La Lucerne d’Outremer

Breakfast at the accommodation

Commented carriage ride in Saint Jean woods, along an old railway line. You will explore the coastal path called by Eisenhower “the most beautiful kilometer in France”.

Lunch at the restaurant

Visit of the La Lucerne d’Outremer Abbey : beautiful Roman testimony dating from 1143. This religious building, transformed into a cotton mill then into a stone quarry is nowadays still under renovation for reintegrating a religious community.
