Day 1

Fosse Arthour and Mortain

After your arrival by your own means, you will discover the Fosse Arthour. In this wilderness setting, follow the trail and discover a river flowing at the foot of a 70m high wall of  rocky blocks that have collapsed from the ridge. A perfect setting for tales and legends, one about King Arthur, who might have lived here… Your hike will take you through the many geologic upheavals of the area, from cluse (geological fault) to the ridges.

Thanks to an app you can access off line, you will learn plenty about the area  flora&fauna, geology, history and legends, thanks to fun and well-designed features of the app.

After lunch (not included), head to Mortain where you will look for the gobelins (small legendary creatures), with a private guided walk “Wellbeing and Legends”, with a sophrology-reflexology guide, near the Mortain waterfalls.

Then, you will visit the collegiate church in Mortain, listed heritage building in 1905. It shelters…

Day 2

Bay of Mont Saint-Michel

After breakfast, arrive to the Mont Saint Michel by our own means. Registered for over 40 years as Unesco World Heritage, this is a spectacular site, always ever changing depending tides, one of the widest in Europe. Easy to see why this landscape has inspired many writers : V. Hugo, T. Gautier, G. Flaubert, G de Maupassant…

To fully appraciate the place, you will take a guided walk around the area to discover the natural phenomena : tides, quicksands…

After your lunch (not included), discover at your own pace the village of Mont Saint Michel, and its medieval streets.

Day 3

Avranches

After your breakfast, head to Avranches, the “city of manuscripts“. Sitting on top of a hill, it enjoys a privileged location overlooking the Mont Saint Michel and its bay. Rich of a wonderful historical heritage (the treasury of the St Gervais Basilica), it perfectly balances with the wonders of the Bay (namely, the Mont Saint Michel Abbey).

You will visit the Scriptorial, the most fabulous collection of manuscripts, with over 4000 items from all ages, some dating back from the 9th century.

After lunch, head to the botanical garden and enjoy some moments of quietness and the panoramic view over the Mont St Michel. Then visit the St Gervais Basilica, where rest the skull of St Aubert… another legend aout the Mont St Michel to learn about!

Day 4

Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel and La Lucerne d’Outremer

After your breakfast, take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage in Saint Jean woods, along an old railway line, to discovered the scenic shoreline, once called by Eisenhower “the most beautiful kilometer in France“.

After your lunch in a restaurant, you will visit the Abbey of Lucerne d’Outremer, a romanesque heritage dating from 1143. This religious building was turned into a cotton spinning mill, then a quarry, and is now being renovated to be able to house in the future a religious community, once again.
